Genre Lighting Research Analysis 2

Hey, and Welcome back I'm Xharia C. And in todays blog we'll be going over section 2 of Genre Lighting Research Analysis. To give a synopsis goes over the different lighting used in or film. Now it's time to go on with the blog.

So in todays blog we are going over section 2 of Genre Lighting Research and Analysis and for the work in section 2 it goes over lighting and to be specific the lighting we are planning to use in our 2 minute film opening at the end of the school year. So for some prior knowledge if you haven't read some of my previous blogs I have recently switched groups and this blogs analysis consist of the work I've done in my previous group. We recently haven't done a group assignment which is why I'm using my previous groups work but when I do it'll definitely be blogged about. So the film that was planned to do was action-based and some reference/inspiration of lighting for the film is Kim Possible (2019) And Red Sparrow (2018) these movies are very action based and definitely fit the genre and theme of the intended film opening that is set to be made close to the end of the school year.

Now I'll start of with light source. Light source is where your lighting comes from and even it's source. The light sources that were decided to be used are Key lighting, Fill lighting, and practical lighting. Key lighting is the main lighting of a scene or a subject, And FYI key lighting doesn't always have to be focused on the main character or subject. Fill lighting removes any dark and shadowy areas that Fill lighting creates, it also adds more dimension to a scene which can give a cool tone effect. And Practical lighting is the use of regular working light sources such as lamps candles, and most times practical lighting is very subtle.

Now it's time to move on to light direction. Light direction is where the light moves and faces on a subject/object. The light direction that was chosen was side, back, and underlighting. Side lighting is light that enters from the side of the frame to highlight an object or even a person, this lighting also helps specifically highlight the subjects shape and can give many tones depending on how it is used. Back lighting  is when the light hits an actor or even an object from behind from a higher view point. Back lighting also gives more dimension in a scene and gives a dramatic contrast. Next is Underlighting, underlighting is when the used light source is placed underneath the subject and shines upwards. It can be used momentarily distort the characters features, and is mostly used in horror.

Next on the list is Light quality. Light quality is the softness or harshness of shadows and how they behave. First is Hard light, hard light is often a bright light that creates harsh shadows. Its mostly used to give a dramatic effect. Next is Soft light, soft light is also a bright light with few harsh shadows and the lighting is quite balanced. Using this quality of light is more appealing visually to an audience, and gives a cool smooth effect.

Now the last little category in this section is Light color. Light Color is the color of light used to create a certain meaning. The 2 light colors we used was warm colors and cool colors. Starting of with Warm colors, warm colors goes along the warm tone spectrum from the color shades red to yellow. While Cool colors are the complete opposite, cool colors go across the cool tone spectrum ranging from the color shades green all the way to violet. And here is a little example of the work me and my other former teammates completed. And here ends this blog.
